The objective of this Section is to effectively support the Unit’s many research and capacity building activities. The administrative services provided include human resources management, training, office administration, financial management, IT systems administration, transport management, maintenance and engineering, procurement and supplies, budget monitoring and reporting, travel and accommodation arrangements. In addition, each of the four stations of the Unit (Entebbe, Masaka, Kyamulibwa and Kampala) is supported by an experienced Station Manager and a support team. The administrative management of the Unit is supervised by the Unit Management Team that comprises the Unit Director, Scientists in Charge of Field Stations and the Senior Administrators.
In order to achieve its objective the Administrative Section is divided in subsections which include the following:
Human Resource: This subsection is headed by a Human Resources Officer and is responsible for staff recruitment, contracts, and updates of the staff code,
induction training, and the management of personnel records including leave. The Unit ensures competitive employment terms for it’s employees by regularly participating in countrywide salary surveys. By the end of 2008 and 2009 the Unit had 458 and 420 staff respectively. The staffs are clustered in the following categories: Scientific, Medical, Data, Administration and Field workers. This sub-section also organizes accommodation for visitors in hotels locally and for travelling staff in hotels internationally, the Unit has three guest houses in Entebbe, Kyamulibwa and Masaka which are used by visitors and staff.
