HIV Prevention Studies Programme
Dr. Anatoli Kamali, Head of Programme
The HIV Prevention Studies Programme aims to evaluate new preventive interventions against HIV transmission and related infections. The studies are conducted both in Masaka district, approximately 140 km South West of Kampala and in and around Entebbe. In 1994 a cohort of approximately 14,500 adults was established in Masaka district to assess the impact of a strategy for the treatment of sexually transmitted infections (STI) and behavioural interventions on the incidence of HIV infection and other STIs. This has been followed by studies in preparation of other large scale HIV prevention trials.
