Dr Eugene Kinyanda awarded EDCTP Fellowship to study mental health and HIV
Evidence for Action have been carrying out pioneering research on prevalence of mental health disorders among people living with HIV in sub-Saharan Africa. One of the leaders of this work in Uganda, Dr Eugene Kinyada, has been awarded a Senior Fellowship from EDCTP to develop this work further. Dr Kinyanda, is a psychiatrist and research manager with MRC/UVRI in Uganda.
The Fellowship is for Euros 200,000 over two years to investigate the question, ‘Clinical Trials in HIV/AIDS in Africa: Should they routinely control for mental health factors ?’. Dr Kinyanda is grateful to the DFID Evidence for Action Consortium who have not only provided the financial support that has made his four years at the MRC Unit in Uganda possible but also for the Evidence for Action Consortium’s small initiative grant who funded the initial mental health in HIV/AIDS study that made this application possible. back
