Kyamulibwa Field Offices

Kyamulibwa site

This field station is located in a rural subcounty of Masaka District and houses the epidemiological and clinical surveillance programme, as well as social science studies and a community development project. The field station is home to about 90 staff and consists of research clinics, laboratories, the surveillance field office, a data section, offices and a guest house.

The MRC/UVRI Unit is the major provider of general health care for the study population in the area. For example, the Unit provides care for the population of the general population cohort that comprises the population of 25 neighbouring rural communities. In the same area, the Unit runs several voluntary HIV counselling and testing centres, providing testing services to about 9000 individuals per year. HIV infected pregnant women are invited to join the free prevention of mother-to-child-HIV transmission (PMTCT) services.
