Masaka site

The Unit’s field station in Masaka town forms the base for various studies conducted in Masaka District. About 90 staff members are based here. The premises comprise project offices, a data section, laboratories, two study clinics as well as stores and back-up electrical power supply. A guest house is located nearby.

Our studies require close collaboration with health service providers in the area. Within the premises of the Regional Hospital and of the AIDS Support Organization (TASO), we established a research clinic used to evaluate innovative interventions aiming at better care of HIV infected patients. In several rural communities, we worked with the public health services and with the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative to upgrade and equip rural health centres.
