Capacity building activities
A major component of the Unit’s mission is capacity building in terms of both increasing the capacity of its own staff in conducting research to the highest possible standard and contributing to the capacity building of partners institutions in Uganda and where possible elsewhere in East Africa.
Training:
Training is coordinated by the Unit’s Training Officer who collaborates closely with the Human Resource Officer. He monitors the training needs as communicated by the different scientific programmes and sections, provides administrative support for training courses conducted in-house, provides information on scientific meetings, is responsible for conference registrations, and supports scientists in the production of conference publications. The Training Officer also provides training to staff who aim to obtain the International Computer Driving License.
During the last two years, the Unit continued to make a major contribution to training and capacity building. The emphasis of our training programme is to enhance the skills base and performance of our staff. Training is also provided to staff of collaborating partner institutions. It is delivered through a variety of avenues including formal academic training, short ...
courses conducted within the Unit, locally in Uganda and internationally plus on-the-job training. Training is also provided through professional attachments to academic partner institutions in the region and internationally. Students from academic institutions in Uganda and abroad spend time at the Unit on professional attachments and electives. more
