SOCIAL SCIENCE PROGRAMME
The aim of the programme is to advance the understanding of the structural drivers and social impact of HIV through the life course. The main geographical focus is Uganda but the programme contributes to knowledge and the development of interventions in Africa and worldwide.
This programme builds on core elements of the unit’s past work by investigating HIV across the life-course as well as continuing to explore the impact of the epidemic on social and demographic change in the region.
The Programme focuses on three themes:
-HIV across the life course;
-HIV, relationships and vulnerable groups; and
-The long-term social and economic impact of HIV.
The objectives are to understand better: HIV in children and adolescents; the impact of HIV on older people; HIV among populations at high risk of infection; Demographic and social change in the context of the HIV epidemic. Across all our work we strengthen research capacity.
