Mengo- Kampala Site
Initially located in Kibuye, the Kampala field station was started in 2008 and is home to the Good Health for Women Project (GHWP). As part of the 25 years’ anniversary celebrations of the MRC/UVRI Uganda Research Unit on AIDS, a new site was commissioned. Based in Mengo-Kisenyi, the facility constructed with funding from the UK Medical Research Council (MRC UK) and the UK Department for International Development (DFID) under the MRC/DFID concordat agreement houses a clinic that targets disadvantaged women as well as laboratories for research.
The station has over 50 staff and the new location provides the Unit with a key physical presence in Kampala, closer to an expanding range of partners involved in both infectious and non-communicable disease research as well as offer opportunities potentially to expand the scientific epidemiological and social science activities beyond HIV infection alone.
